PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITIONS

Life in the Streets 2020 exhibition

The photography exhibition “Life in the Streets 2020” is part of a large-scale project that captured the atmosphere of cities across the Czech Republic mostly in May of 2020 at the beginning of the “covid” period. Peter Cizner's photographs can evoke deep feelings - the kind of feelings we used to have - anxiety, worry, empathy, but also joy and hope. During the first wave of the pandemic, we felt a sense of togetherness and solidarity. We were attentive to each other. The need to remind ourselves of the good in us is one of the reasons why I exhibit my photographs.

Through photographs it is possible to capture different contexts, to recall, for example, vitality, courage, fear, worry, love or even wisdom, and to mix it with drops of humour. This exhibition was created because I believe that we can learn to notice when and through what we experience things similarly and what connects us in our human existence and perception. It is the opposite of the current sad indifference. It is often said that everyone experiences things subjectively, as if this were a scientifically based rule. But this is what often leads us to focus only on ourselves and stop caring about others. Rarely does it open up between us in such a way that we let each other know what's inside us in an honest and timely way.

From August 28 to September 30, 2025, the exhibition Life in the Streets 2020 will once again be on display in the entrance hall of the Town Hall in Telč and in the Malá galerie Šatlava gallery. To mark the occasion, an interview with the author was published in the September issue of Telčské listy. From another interview at the exhibition installation, ČTK published an article with various photographs by ČTK (Czech Press Agency) photographer Luboš Pavlíček in Česke noviny ČTK, in Metro.cz and in Aktuálně.cz.

The Joy of France exhibition

The Joy of France exhibition was moved from the BARKA Theatre in Brno to the Jihlava Municipal Library, where it was in May 2025. It will be reinstalled in Czech town Hradec Králové in January 2026.

Peter Cizner's lens transports the viewer into the joyful festive atmosphere of the medieval festival in Provins in June 2024, capturing a lively celebration of history, where craft traditions, jousting and festive feasts mingle. Magical creatures such as fairies and wizards are also present. The French town of Provins, now a UNESCO site, was once an important fortress founded by the Romans to protect the area east of Paris. Today, it is a major tourist destination that draws on its medieval history.

Photographs from exhibitions since October 2024 in Svitavy, this year in Brno from the BARKA Theatre, from the Café of the Museum of Highlands Jihlava and from the Jihlava City Library:

Exhibition "Život v ulicích 2020" i.e. "Life in the Streets 2020" in the entrance hall of the Town Hall in Telč and in the Small Gallery Šatlava.

I selected another seven photos from the book for the exhibition in Telč. For example, the last shot from the exhibition shows Man Surrounded by Pigeons; Boy Wearing a Mask and Rollerblades Climbing a Tree, and Billboard Advertising a Spring Fashion Collection, complete with masks. What is unique about Telč is that I was able to hang photos from a firefighter wedding on May 7, 2020, near a fire hose from 1914. In one photo, firefighters created for the bride and groom a tall and long archway out of a fire hose. Next to it is a photo of the bride spraying disinfectant on the wedding photographer, while the newlywed holds a yellow towel in one hand and a walkie-talkie in the other, smiling warmly. The exhibition and book mainly feature narrative photographs, i.e., photographs in which something is happening or which suggest a story.
